We are pleased to share details of two free, pre-congress sessions at the 33rd International Congress of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ICC) in Istanbul, Turkey (3 - 6 November 2024).
"From bench to bedside" Optimising antibiotic use with Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics (PKPD)
The aim of this interactive session is to cover the basic aspects of antibiotic pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD). Participants will be expected to play an active role in discussions.
Learning Outcomes:
* To provide a basic understanding for the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) properties of anti-infective drugs. * To introduce in vitro and in vivo modeling as a tool to interpret PK and PD of antimicrobials. * To highlight the importance of using PK/PD to optimize the antimicrobial treatment. * To facilitate the use of therapeutic drug monitoring to optimize antibiotic treatment in patients.
- Basics of antibiotic pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics
Jian Li
- Use of in vitro and in vivo models to elucidate the PK/PD driver of antimicrobial activity
Sebastian Wicha
- Optimising antibiotic treatment in patients using PK/PD

"From bench to bedside" Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Guided by EUCAST
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to dive deep into the latest advancements in antimicrobial susceptibility testing guided by EUCAST (European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing) standards.
Why Attend? * Learn cutting-edge techniques to ensure precise antimicrobial therapy * Bridge the gap between laboratory results and clinical decision-making * Master EUCAST guidelines to enhance patient outcomes * Hands-on sessions with expert microbiologists and clinicians
This interactive session is designed for infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, pharmacologists and healthcare professionals eager to stay ahead in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
- Standardisation of antimicrobial susceptibility testing – Where are we?
Onur Karatuna
- Obstacles and challenges in implementation of EUCAST methodology (and how to overcome them)
Zeynep Ceren Karahan
- What to do when there are no breakpoints in the EUCAST table?
Gunnar Kahlmeter
Chairs: Ufuk Hasdemir and Fred Tenover
