WHO fungal priority pathogens list:
challenges in diagnosis and management
This joint ISAC/ESCMID webinar explores the critical challenges posed by fungal infections, as highlighted in the WHO Fungal Priority Pathogen List. It features expert insights into the global burden and clinical impact of fungal pathogens.
Prof. Cornelia Lass-Flörl provides an overview of the priority pathogens identified by WHO, while Prof. Sevtap Arikan Akdagli discusses the growing threat of azole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus in both clinical and environmental settings, emphasising the need for effective screening and containment strategies.
Prof. Anuradha Chowdhary addresses the emergence and spread of antifungal resistance in Candida species, underscoring the urgent need for improved diagnostics and management approaches.

Establishing the Pivotal Role of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Professional Societies: results of a global survey
This webinar, hosted jointly by ISAC and ESCMID, explored how professional infectious disease and clinical microbiology societies function worldwide, especially in the context of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Prof. Heiman Wertheim presented the results of a global survey on this topic and highlights key insights into governance, resources, and involvement in national AMR action plans.
These results were first published in the Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance (JGAR), an ISAC journal
Also in this webinar, hear about the activities of ISAC and ESCMID from the society Presidents, Prof. Souha Kanj (ISAC) and Prof. Robert Skov (ESCMID).

AMR in low resource settings and / or displaced populations
We are delighted to share the recent webinar held in collaboration with ESCMID on AMR in low resource settings and / or displaced populations.
The webinar explored the challenges of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low-resource settings and displaced populations, highlighting practical solutions for infection control. It sought to promote global collaboration and innovative strategies to address AMR in these vulnerable communities.
Over 1,600 people registered for the live event which was attended by colleagues from 134 countries.

ISAC was delighted to host an ESCMID symposium at the 33rd International Congress of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ICC) held in Istanbul, in November 2024 on the important topic of climate change and change in infections.
PROGRAMME
- Change in infections by Prof. Annelies Zinkernagel
- Effects of climate change on antimicrobial resistance by Dr Kristina Osbjer
- Climate change & Rickettsial diseases by Dr Figen Kuloğlu
- Hidden burden of Melioidosis by Dr Emma Birnie
