The International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) is a federation of affiliated member societies that aims to increase the knowledge of antimicrobial chemotherapy against infections and combat antibiotic resistance worldwide. In an era where misinformation threatens the very foundation of scientific progress, ISAC is committed to the sharing of reliable information, robust science, and to the advancement of global well-being. As a Society dedicated to increasing the knowledge in managing infectious diseases across the globe, we recognize science is not merely an academic pursuit - it is an essential component of humanity.

Defending science against mis- and dis-information

Science has long been the cornerstone of human advancement, guiding us through medical breakthroughs, pandemics and other public health crises. However, in recent years, political agendas and social media misinformation have sought to undermine scientific integrity, particularly in areas such as vaccination. Vaccination is one of the greatest achievements in medical history, saving millions of lives and preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Vaccines are safe, effective and essential for global health security. Preventing diseases with vaccination also reduces the need for antibiotics and this an important component for preventing further emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Although the scientific evidence supporting vaccination is strong and convincing, vaccines continue to face skepticism, primarily driven by mis- and dis-information. This mis- and dis-information has not only eroded public trust but also endangered lives by discouraging proven medical interventions.
ISAC advocates for the dissemination of accurate scientific knowledge, ensuring healthcare professionals and the public have access to reliable information. We call upon governments, policymakers, and social media platforms to uphold the integrity of science and prevent the spread of harmful mis- and dis-information.

A Call to Action: Science and protecting reliable information

Scientific progress does not occur in isolation but thrives within well-structured governance systems that provide reliable information and education; quality research with accountable investigators; access to proper healthcare and prevention strategies. Strong governance ensures scientific discoveries translate into effective policies, equitable healthcare access and robust disease prevention strategies like vaccines. Without these frameworks, the fight against infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance will falter, leaving populations vulnerable to preventable health crises.

The challenges we face; emerging infections, pandemics, and antimicrobial resistance; demand a unified response based on science, reliable information, accountability and global cooperation. ISAC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold scientific integrity, advocate for strong governance, provide access to reliable information and champion vaccination as a proven tool for disease prevention.

We urge our member societies to uphold these values as, together, we remain strong. Stand with us in defending science and effective interventions against mis- and dis-information, supporting aid for those in need, and fostering a future where good healthcare prevails. Together, we can ensure science continues to serve humanity, unimpeded by political agendas or social media distortions.

ISAC currently has a worldwide membership composed of 107 Member Societies, which in turn have over 70,000 individual members.
