Editorship of Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance

The Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance (JGAR) is owned by the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC) and published by our partner Elsevier. JGAR was launched in 2013 and is currently a quarterly online Open Access journal that focuses on the global spread of antibiotic-resistant microbes. It was quickly established as a key journal in the Infectious Diseases / Microbiology sphere. It has an Impact Factor of 4.6 (© Clarivate Analytics) and it is ranked 36th out of 96 Infectious Diseases journals and 72nd out of 277 Pharmacology & Pharmacy journals.
The rapid success of JGAR is due, in no small part, to its founding Editor-in-Chief, Professor Stefania Stefani along with the international Editorial Board. Stefania has demonstrated strong leadership of JGAR and has contributed significantly to the ISAC Executive Committee. Stefania’s ISAC and Elsevier colleagues are extremely grateful for her dynamism, drive, enthusiasm, support and friendship since becoming JGAR Editor-in-Chief in 2013. She has successfully nurtured and developed JGAR to its current level and feels that, with over 10 years’ service to the journal, the time is right to step back and hand the reigns over to a new editor-in-Chief. She leaves the journal in a very strong position, as demonstrated by its popularity with authors and readers alike.
ISAC is now looking for a new JGAR Editor-in-Chief; the position will begin towards the end of 2024 and we are pleased to be able to have a transition period with Stefania, who will facilitate a comprehensive handover.

Candidates

Candidates should be experienced scholars, actively involved in research areas covered by the journal’s scope. Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance (JGAR) serves the field as a peer-reviewed journal, providing comprehensive and up-to-date peer reviewed reference information on antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-parasitic resistance.

Working together with the journal’s international Editorial Board Members, the Editor-in-Chief’s primary responsibilities will include managing the peer review of journal content, overseeing the large team of Editors, encouraging the submission of original high‐quality manuscripts, working with the publisher and ISAC to develop and implement the journal’s strategy, and selecting new Editors and Board members as necessary. Ideal candidates should be active in the field of clinical Microbiology or infectious diseases and have an established track record as an author, and possibly as a deputy or associate editor, plus prior hands-on experience in all aspects of peer review, working with authors, reviewers, and publishers. The journal receives around 800 submissions per annum. A stipend will be provided in recognition of the time and effort involved in this position.

We are open to the possibility of appointing two (or more) Editors-in-Chief, rather than a single Editor-in-Chief, to steer the journal through the coming years of its development.
