2015 Young Investigator Travel Grants
The 2015 awardees were recognised during the 29th ICC in San Diego and they are:
Nusaibah Abdul RahimNusaibah was born in 1987, she is a PhD candidate in Drug Delivery, Disposition and Dynamics at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Nusaibah won this award for her abstract ‘Transcriptomic Response of an NDM-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) Isolate to Polymyxin B (PMB) and Chloramphenicol (CHL)’. |
Pedro AbrantesPedro was born in 1983 and is a Mozambican citizen. He studs Postdoctoral Research oied towards his Ph.D. degree in Medical Bioscience at the University of the Western Cape and is currently conducting hin microbial endogenous infections in at-risk population groups. Pedro won this award for his abstract "Proteomics of drug-resistant HIV-associated candidiasis". |
Karolina AkinosoglouKarolina was born in Greece in 1982 and recently completed her clinical specialty training in internal medicine. She finished her PhD in the field of malaria parasite biology, at Imperial College London and is currently engaging in post-doctoral clinical research in infectious diseases at University Hospital of Patras, Greece. Karolina won this award for her abstract ‘Platelet Aggregation Along Different Stages of Sepsis'. |
Jonathan BettsJonathan was born in 1981. He completed his PhD in Chemistry/Microbiology at the University of Hull currently a postdoctoral research scientist at Queen Mary, University of London. Jonathan won this award for his abstract ‘In-vitro And In-vivo Activity Of ML302F A Novel Thioenolate Metallo-β-lactamase Inhibitor'. |
Ravindra DotelRavindra was born in 1980. He holds a fellowship in infectious diseases (FRACP) and is currently enrolled in PhD at University of Sydney, Australia. His research is on molecular epidemiology of nosocomial methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) infection. Ravindra won this award for his abstract ‘Utility of a 19-target Binary Typing Method for Large-Scale Surveillance of MRSA Epidemiology’. |
Amy JonesAmy was born in 1986 in the UK and is currently an early career research fellow working at the Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery, Griffith University, Australia. Amy won this award for her abstract ‘Identification and Characterisation of Novel Chemical Scaffolds for the Treatment of Human African Trypanosomiasis’. |
Ivana JamborovaIvana was born in 1986 and if from the Czech Republic. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Brno (UVPS), Czech Republic. Ivana won this award for her abstracts ‘Comparative Analysis of Escherichia coli Sequence Type 131 Isolates from Humans, Wastewater, and Wildlife’, ‘Cephalosporin-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates from Wild Birds in Canada’ and ‘Escherichia coli with Plasmid-Mediated Resistance to Cephalosporins and Quinolones in American Crows’. |
Norihito KakuNorihito was born in Japan in 1982 and is currently working with the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Norihito won this award for his abstract ‘Comparison of ME1100, an Arbekacin Inhalation Solution, and Amikacin in a Murine Model of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia Caused by P. aeruginosa’. |
Anne MakenaAnne was born in 1987 and is a final year graduate student reading for a PhD in Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford, UK. Anne won this award for her abstract ‘Characterization of VIM Variants Reveals Differences in Stability and Inhibitor Binding’. |
Lynette PheeLynette was born in 1981 and is currently a 4th year Specialist Trainee registrar in Clinical Microbiology with Barts Health / Homerton University Hospital NHS Trusts in London as well as a 2nd year PhD student with Queen Mary University of London. Lynette won this award for her abstract ‘In Vitro and In Vivo Activity of Lactivicin Derivatives against Enterobacteriaceae Producing Extended-spectrum (ESBL) and Carbapenem hydrolysing β-lactamases’ |
Kelly RevelesKelly was born in 1986 and is currently completing her first year as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. Kelly won this award for her abstracts ‘Clostridium difficile Infection Incidence and Health Outcomes in the National Veterans Health Administration from 2003 to 2012’ and ‘National Epidemiology of Recurrent Clostridium difficile Infections in the Veterans Health Administration from 2003 to 2012’. |
Serhat UysalSerhat was born in Turkey in 1985, he is current an Infectious diseases and clinical microbiology specialist at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, İzmir, Turkey. Serhat won this award for his abstract ‘Daptomycin in the Treatment of Diabetic Foot Infections; Multicenter Study’. |
Laura WrightLaura was born in 1986 and is currently in her third year of PhD studies at the University of East Anglia and based at the Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections Reference Unit, Public Health England, London. Laura won this award for her abstract ‘Whole Genome Sequencing of Metallo-β-Lactamase-Producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa Belonging to the ST235 High-Risk Clone’. |
